Our first tournament/social meetup in the RACA’s Member’s Bar went quite well.
There was the unfortunate mix up of attendees (this put us back 30 minutes)
I will be enforcing the Friday 4pm rule rigorously from now on! You are warned. To have any chance of concluding by 4pm we have to start as close to 10am as possible. See below.
I have a decision to make. It is becoming increasingly clear that even with clocks, finishing at 4pm isn’t doable consistently.
However moving to the Member’s Bar removes the pressure from the RACA preparing for the evening’s dinner. The bar stays open until 10pm which can lend itself to chouette after the tournament if there’s sufficient interest.
There are a number of options. The first is the most important.
Do we need to change at all if members can play till 5pm?
In which case the following changes are not required.
If an approx. 4pm finish is preferred then:
1. Do we revert to 5 point matches?
2. If 7 point matches are chosen then I can reduce the clock times to 10 second bonus from 12 seconds.
3. and/or I can reduce the clock’s bank from 14 minutes to say 12 minutes.
Those changes, at least initially, work in the experienced players favour! But practice makes perfect!
Your feedback would be helpful, please.
Steve C won the day 4/4. $80 and a bottle of wine.
Deniz 2nd. $40 and a bottle of wine.
Me 3rd.
I have to say, I had two of the most exciting matches I can recall against Noah with a 4 cube and Steve C. 2 away, 2 away and a 2 cube. One I won and one I lost ![]()
