What a start to 2025!
18 players. (An even number which meant your TD didn’t play. Just as well as managing a Swiss takes a little serious organising.)
Welcome to my old friend Hakan. (Over from Türkiye with his wife, visiting their daughter, Eda.)
Welcome to our 6 new members. Steve, Kubi, Jack, his wife Stacy, Terry and Deniz.
There was a definite Turkish and Wollongong vibe last Saturday. (Will there be a new club in Wollongong? Watch this space!)
And there’s a new little Backgammon player on the way. Congratulations Julia and Ali.
4 x 5pt rounds of Swiss produced:
Winner: Adam 4/4 and a Dinner for 2 (It’s been a little while. He’s been polishing his back-game apparently!)
R/U: Dave 3/1 and a bottle of wine (on a count back +10)
Consolation: Terry 3/1 and a bottle of wine (on a count back +9)
By popular vote, it was decided to share the pools between 1st and 2nd. I made another slight change in having only 2 pools; $40 for the Masters and $20 for Intermediates. Players are only permitted to enter one pool and the Intermediate pool is at the TD’s discretion.
This turned out to create, in effect, 3 tournaments in one and kept the interest going right up until the last result.
Master’s pool was $240. Split $160 to Adam and $80 to Terry
Intermediate’s pool was $100. Split $70 to Dave (Masters from now on) and $30 to Sherin 2/2 (on a count back +/- 0)
NB. There’s still no obligation to enter either of the pools.
